Gerd Grimmig was born in Freden in 1953. After studying mining at Clausthal Technical University, he worked in mining operations at various plants and in the mining division at the head office of Kali und Salz AG (now K+S Aktiengesellschaft). Between 1990 and 1996, he held several plant manager positions in the mining division. Between January 1997 and September 2001, Gerd Grimmig was managing director of Kali und Salz GmbH and responsible for the mining department. Since October 2000, he has been a member of the Board of Executive Directors of K+S Aktiengesellschaft. His areas of responsibility are Mining, Geology, Technology/Energy, Research and Development, Environment, Occupational Safety, Quality Management, Inactive Plants, Waste Management and Recycling, Animal Hygiene Products, MSW Chemie, and Consulting.
