Talks in Uganda

K+S CEO Meets Prime Minister Rugunda

During a trip to Uganda lasting several days, K+S CEO Dr. Burkhard Lohr met with Ugandan Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda on Tuesday. They talked for about one hour and discussed topics such as economic opportunities in the east African country and K+S activities being conducted there.

K+S is planning to develop an agricultural trading platform in Uganda. It is intended to help small farmers procure urgently needed fertilizers in smaller quantities as well. In connection with this, Lohr also met local companies that could be potential cooperation partners. “We’re already conducting very promising negotiations. I’m confident that we’ll shortly be able to launch the planned trading platform to develop this market with its enormous opportunities,” said Lohr. This measure is one of the numerous growth options that K+S identified as part of “Shaping 2030”, the new group strategy that was presented at the beginning of October.

K+S already has many years of experience with agriculture in Uganda. In 2013, the company initiated the “Growth for Uganda” aid project together with the NGO Sasakawa Africa Association. After just a few years of intensive agricultural training, the living and income situation of almost 650,000 people has been improved significantly.
