JOINT PRESS RELEASE

K+S To Sponsor Witten/Herdecke University Endowed Chair

K+S will sponsor a new endowed chair in the field of occupational medicine and corporate health management at the private Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H). A corresponding agreement, which will run for five years, has been concluded between the University and K+S.

Against the backdrop of current and future workplace requirements, traditional corporate medical care concepts are no longer adequate and need university-level, interdisciplinary engagement and the development of an up-to-date health management system as well as cooperation on R&D issues.

“By providing this sponsorship, K+S wants to support science in addressing current challenges in occupational medicine stemming from the demands of the modern world of work which result in new burdens and strains regarding the health of employees,” said Dr. Thomas Nöcker, Board Member with responsibility for personnel affairs. “By cooperating with the Witten/Herdecke University, we also hope to obtain future findings that we will also be able to use in our own corporate health management system,” added Dr. Nöcker.

“Witten/Herdecke University is delighted about the endowed chair of occupational medicine, because, as a further element of scholarship in the field of human medicine, it will broaden the range of research and teaching. Shaping work in a way that meets health needs as well as the promotion of healthy living on the part of employees are areas that UW/H will now be able to work on thanks to K+S,” said Prof. Dr. Martin Butzlaff, the UW/H president.

The endowed chair aims at intensifying research in the areas of occupational medicine and corporate health management, produce synergies in research and learning, and promoting the transfer of the resulting findings to operational practice in industry and in mining.

The key areas of the chair cover all aspects of up-to-date corporate health management. It should address the challenges of the “Work 4.0” dialog process by taking into account such factors as the ageing workforce, inclusion, diversity, multi-jobbing and precarious employment.
