K+S Presents Key Pillars of Overall Strategyl

Today, K+S presented the key pillars of its overall strategy for reducing the burden on the environment to the “Water Protection Werra/Weser and Potash Production” Round Table. In this regard, the Company is pursuing, by means of a package of measures with a value of 360 million euros, its consistent goal of minimising saline waste water, ending the injection of liquid residues and reducing the injection of saline water into the Werra. K+S is currently reviewing a long-distance pipeline concept. A decision on its construction will depend on ecological, political and economic criteria.  more

K+S presents comprehensive package of measures for the protection of waters

K+S has decided on a comprehensive package of measures for the Hessian-Thuringian potash district. K+S will thus significantly reduce the current volume of saline water starting from 2011 already, and gradually halve it to 7 million cubic metres a year by 2015 at the latest. The K+S package of measures will clear the way for gradually reducing the chloride threshold of the Werra, applicable until 2012, from currently 2,500 mg/l to 1,700 mg/l and the hardship threshold from 90 to 65 dH (degrees of German hardness), as well considerably reducing the volume of injected saline water.  more
