Morton Salt – a long tradition and a well known brand
Morton Salt’s history as a salt producer goes back to 1848. Established as Richmond & Company in Chicago, it is now the leading producer and trader of salt in North America. One of the best known brands in the United States, Morton Salt has been symbolised by the distinctive “Umbrella Girl” logo printed on its table salt packaging since 1914. The little girl scattering salt in the rain under the slogan “When it rains, it pours” (which has gone through six different versions) was originally intended to make the point that Morton salt pours freely even in damp weather. Besides being the best known brand of table salt in the USA, Morton Salt is also one of the leading suppliers in the North American de-icing and commercial salt sector.
