Frequently asked questions on the K+S Group!
What does the name "K+S" mean, or how did you come to choose the name?
Our roots lie in the products "Kali" (Potash) and "Salz" (Salt). Our former name, Kali und Salz AG, reflected this. The subsequent evolution of the company into a diversified supplier meeting application needs for a very wide range of fields in agriculture and industry, the emergence of the new business segment Nitrogen fertilizers as well the extensive know-how that we possess in the waste management business mean that much more than Kali and Salz is involved today. That is what is behind the name "K+S Aktiengesellschaft" or "K+S Group".
In what sectors does K+S operate?
The K+S Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of standard and speciality fertilizers. In comparison to 31 March 2011 (14,173 employees), the number has increased by 309 employees, or around 2%; this is above all due to an increase in personnel in the Potash and Magnesium Products business segment in order to maintain the volume of crude salt extracted and for increased activities in the area of environmental protection as well as for the Legacy Project. In terms of the average for the quarter, 14,485 employees were employed; this is also a slight increase of about 2% as compared to the previous year’s quarter (Q1/11: 14,196).
