K+S global

Laura goes Singapore - Part 2

Office (2)The day after I had arrived, I started working at K+S Asia Pacific in Singapore. Nine stations, one change and one call later, Charlotte, the good soul of K+S Asia Pacific, picked me up at the MRT station. I was greeted nicely by the rest of my new colleagues on the 16th floor of the Keppel Bay Tower with a view of the harbor and the resort island Sentosa. Here, I was introduced to the world of potash distribution in the Asian-Pacific region.

From the first day, there were many tasks for me to do. In order to optimize work processes, I conducted interviews with colleagues and created organigrams of processes. While doing this, I learned more about the activities of the Asian companies (beside K+S AP there is also the manufacturing plant Huludao and the Chinese sales office in Shenzhen). Moreover, I took care of the coordination between vouchers and bank account transactions.

After working hours, which usually fill the day from 8:30am to 5:30pm, I have explored new parts of the city every night.

From Chinatown to Little India, the Botanical Gardens to Gardens by the Bay with an impressive lightshow – there is so much to see...

Singapur5In my first week, I have already realized that the metropolis offers a lot of activities (and food!). My personal highlight of the week were the three-hour rehearsals which should serve for the National Day at 9th August 2018. Every Saturday, six Saturdays in a row, not only soldiers and other public servants march in a parade through the city but also hundreds of volunteers dance the story of Singapore on a stage. Even jet fighters jet over the city, skydivers show their arts and huge fireworks can be seen in the sky.

Very impressive!

Best regards

Laura
